Rahat Fateh Ali Khan detained

Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was detained at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here on Sunday, along with two members of his troupe, for allegedly carrying $1.24 lakh in undeclared cash.

Sources said the singer was on his way to board a flight to Dubai around 4.30 p.m. when he, along with two members of his troupe, was intercepted by officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence at the departure lounge. Their bags allegedly contained $1.24 lakh, some demand drafts and travellers' cheques. The foreign currency was not declared to Customs officials.

“The singer was accompanied by over a dozen members. They were on their way to Lahore via Dubai. He and the other two are being questioned by DRI officials to ascertain the source of the money. He will be given an opportunity to explain from where he got the cash…,” an official said.
