Ex-servicemen across India gather to listen the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech on a screen, eagerly awaiting the announcement of One Rank One Pension.
Loud chants of 'Vande Mataram', 'Jai Hind', 'Sadda Hak Ethe Rakh' filled the ambience of Jantar Mantar Road in early hours of 69th Independence Day.
The speech by PM Modi went on for 90 minutes.
The demand for OROP has been pending for almost 20 years.
As the Prime Minister made his speech on his various schemes, the protests continued.
Mr. Modi said: There should not be any poor without a house by 2022.
The demand for One Rank One Pension continued.
Many of the servicemen had breakfast at the event.
Mr. Modi spoke about OROP at the end of his speech: Govt is accepting OROP in principle, but negotiations got stuck on nitty gritty details.
"OROP was considered by all governments. Even we haven't been able to resolve it yet," the PM said.
The United Front of Ex-Servicemen wanted OROP to be implemented.
