New online DTC complaints system

January 01, 2010 05:03 pm | Updated 05:03 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Along with a new fleet of modern low-floor buses, the Delhi Transport Corporation is also seeking to transform its image by becoming more tech-savvy and people-friendly. To this end, an online complaints and suggestions centre will be set up at the DTC headquarters, State Transport Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely has said.

The Minister said passengers would now also be able to lodge complaints and give suggestions online at dtc.nic.in. To ensure that the exercise does not remain on paper, the Minister said the online suggestions and complaints would be reviewed on a regular basis and an action taken report made available on the website.

Mr. Lovely said the DTC is also on the threshold of a rapid expansion of its pollution-free and eco-friendly CNG fleet. There are 4,011 buses in the fleet at the moment and this number would go up to around 6,000 in the near future.

The Minister also announced a scheme for rewarding drivers and conductors who performed their duty well. He said the Corporation has decided to institute a Parivahan Kamgar Puruskar under a pilot project. Under the project, two cash prizes of Rs.10,000 each will be given to the best driver and conductor annually along with a certificate for their outstanding performance. Besides, 39 consolation cash prizes of Rs.5,000 each would be given to the best workers of the depots and one worker would be drawn from each depot.

To top it all, the Minister announced that a driver and a conductor winning this award for three consecutive years would be promoted to the next higher grade out-of-turn without the seniority criteria coming in the way. At present there are 9,161 drivers and 9,945 conductors engaged in DTC.

The Minister said a moving trophy would also be awarded to the best bus depot. The terms of reference for selection would be minimum rate of accidents, maximum annual turnover, punctuality and regularity of the staff, and proper upkeep and maintenance of buses.
