NDPL launches online carbon footprint calculator

January 31, 2011 08:28 pm | Updated 08:28 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

North Delhi Power Limited has launched a carbon footprint calculator on its website to create awareness about reducing carbon footprint.

The CFC allows one to determine carbon dioxide emissions from everyday activities, including from energy consumption at home to vehicular emission from two, three or four- wheelers.

Carbon footprint is the sum of all carbon dioxide emissions that are directly and indirectly associated with an individual’s activities over a given time frame (usually 12 months). The calculator, thus, measures the effects of an individual’s activities on the environment in terms of carbon dioxide emissions.

“The carbon footprint calculator was created in order to enable our consumers and the general populace to scientifically calculate how much carbon emission takes place as a result of their own lifestyle on a daily basis. It is also meant to create awareness about the benefits of adopting a low carbon lifestyle for reducing carbon emissions and the pressing need to conserve our environment ,” said an NDPL spokesperson.

“NDPL has been aggressively creating energy conservation awareness though its energy club programmes comprising of students from over 50 member schools who have in turn sensitised close to six lakh people till date. As part of a larger move of escalating its ongoing energy conservation programme, NDPL is also sensitive to the aspect of climate change and is committed to introduce energy efficient and greener technologies,” the spokesperson added.
