After a major snag occurred on Delhi Metro’s Red Line on day one of the odd-even scheme, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) claims it is fully prepared for the first working day under the scheme. Technicians and experts have been put on alert for constant monitoring and review meetings have been planned throughout the week.

“We have all preparations in place. However, on Monday a meeting will be held to put in place detailed work distribution for the coming week. A few directives have been issued by the State Transport Minister Gopal Rai and they shall be implemented. Besides, special task forces have been deployed at various locations, primarily at congested intersections,” said a DMRC official. He confirmed that leaves of metro employees have been cancelled for the coming week.

The odd-even scheme began on Friday but Monday will be the real test as it would be the first working day after the extended weekend. The DMRC added that it has made arrangements to transport as many as 30-31 lakh passengers per day during the 15-day period of the scheme. The average daily ridership of the city’s metro network currently stands at 27 lakh.

In order to prevent chaos and overcrowding on Monday, special teams will be deployed at six crucial metro stations to deal with issues like delays. These points include Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Kirti Nagar, Vishwavidyalaya and Kashmere Gate.

On Saturday, Minister Gopal Rai had also constituted a five-member team from various departments of the DMRC to deal with technical issues in Metro operations. In the review meeting recently held it was also decided that three special trains would be run between Huda City Centre and Samaypur Badli and two trains between Faridabad and ITO.
