: A court here has sentenced a 57-year-old man to two years in jail for molesting a six-year-old girl in north-west Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh in 2010.

The court also imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on the convict, Anil Prakash, and directed him to pay a compensation of ₹30,000 to the victim. The court held the accused guilty on the basis of the medical report and the evidence given by the victim and her parents. The convict claimed that he was implicated in the case as there was a money dispute between him and the victim’s parents. The court, however, dismissed the allegations.

‘No grounds for leniency’

Quashing a plea for lenient punishment by the counsel for the accused, the court said: “I am not inclined to give benefit of probation to the convict as this was a crime against a woman, which should be strictly dealt with.”
