A number of organisations in the Capital have expressed solidarity with the people in the flood-affected areas of Jammu and Kashmir, and donated in cash and kind towards rescue and relief efforts.
The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) on Friday continued to send cooked food, dry rations and medicines to people in the flood-affected areas of Srinagar.
Doctors and paramedical staffA team of doctors and paramedical staff sent by the committee is also working round-the-clock in Srinagar, said DSGMC president Manjit Singh G.K.
“We are regularly sending cooked food for 50,000 people everyday along with dry ration, including rice and pulses,” he said, adding that about 25 tonnes of ration and other necessary items were being sent to the Valley everyday.
The team stationed in Srinagar is also working towards getting things ready for when the floodwaters recede, since new challenges like outbreak of epidemics and other ailments, may occur.
Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party legislators and councillors have pledged their support to the Jammu and Kashmir flood relief victims and have decided to donate one-month salary and allowances to the Prime Minister’s disaster relief fund for the flood victims.
Relief materialDelhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay said a special centre has been set up at the office premises for collecting relief material for the flood victims and the party is receiving relief material from various traders’ organisations and residents’ welfare associations.
With the onset of winter, the party has decided it will send about 5,000 sweaters for the children next week.
On Sunday, a truck with 750 blankets, 200 tents, dry rations and other food items will be dispatched, he added.
The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has donated Rs.1 crore to the Prime Minister’s relief fund for the flood victims, according to NDMC chairman Jalaj Shrivastava.
He said there has been a long tradition of contribution by NDMC employees towards relief works whenever such calamities have occurred in any part of the country.
“During the flash-floods and landslips in Uttarakhand in 2013, NDMC employees contributed one-day salary amounting to Rs.1.03 crore to the relief fund,” he said.
The officers and staffers of the Delhi Agricultural Marketing Board and various Agricultural Produce Marketing Committees have decided to voluntarily contribute one-day salary to the Chief Minister’s relief fund, a statement said.
DMRC help desk at airportFacilitation counters-cum-help desks have been set up by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation at the Indira Gandhi International Airport Terminal 3 to assist and guide the victims of the devastating floods who are returning to Delhi by air.
“The officials posted at the facilitation counter-cum-helpdesk are providing all necessary details to the flood victims about the Delhi Metro network and are also guiding them to the IGI Airport Metro station as per their requirements,” a statement from DMRC said.
