Get set for AC maxi cabs

January 03, 2017 12:52 am | Updated 12:52 am IST - New Delhi:

The Delhi government has planned to introduce a ‘maxi cab’ service with air-conditioned vehicles to provide “last-mile connectivity” to the city. Transport Minister Satyendar Jain has planned the scheme under which ‘gramin sewa’, ‘phat-phat sewa’ and ‘eco-friendly sewa’ would be clubbed, sources said. As per the plan, the scheme is expected to be introduced in the next few months. Under this, only air-conditioned cabs will be given permits. Last year, the AAP government had announced a scheme called ‘City Taxi’ service under which permits were issued to 600cc vehicles. The fare for the service was fixed at ₹10 per km.

As per the new scheme, the taxis should have a panic and hooter button as a safety feature. —PTI
