: A constable was allegedly thrashed by a group of men who had been flagged down for dangerous driving.
The incident happened near Malik Hotel in south Delhi’s Masudpur around 11 p.m. on Monday, when Constable Mohd Alam and his colleagues were deployed at a police picket.
The police team had noticed a Skoda car being driven “rashly and dangerously”, and had signalled the driver to stop. “The car was about to hit the police barricades,” said Chinmoy Biswal, Additional DCP (South).
“The policemen told the driver to drive safely. The man and his associates, however, got off the vehicle and started thrashing constable Alam,” the officer added. The assailants then sped away. The police noted down the car’s registration number, but were unable to intercept the vehicle.
‘Assailants inebriated’
Alam was later hospitalised. “All the assailants appeared to be in an inebriated state,” the officer said. A case has been registered.
