An air-conditioned Advanced Life Support (ALS) Ambulance equipped with a defibrillator, transport ventilator, transport monitor, pneumatic splints, spine board and other essential life-saving equipment and drugs has started operations at Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Hospital here.
The ambulance was flagged off by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit from her residence on Friday in the presence of Health Minister Kiran Walia and Delhi Jal Board Vice-Chairman Ramakant Goswami, who used his MLA funds for purchasing the ambulance for the Delhi Government hospital.
The 50-bed Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Hospital serves almost 3 lakh people living in Patel Nagar and Rajendra Nagar. Since earlier it had only one ambulance for transporting sick patients, the need to purchase a new ambulance was felt.
Subsequently, the new air-conditioned ALS ambulance was procured by the Delhi Government-run hospital at a cost of Rs.27 lakh.
The ultramodern ambulance is also equipped with a global positioning system and radio and mobile system for accessibility and monitoring of movement. It will be a part of the disaster management system and its services will also be available during the Commonwealth Games.
