: A team of the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force on Sunday arrested eight persons. It claimed to have busted a gang involved in cheating people through fake holiday packages and mobile tower rental agreements.

Following the arrest, the team sealed two call centres in Delhi from where calls were made to gullible persons.

“Eight persons have been arrested today. Gang leader Harvinder Singh was arrested from near Yamaha crossing. The company’s office is located at Laxmi Nagar in Delhi. Two call centres there have been sealed and documents seized for scrutiny,” Triveni Singh, Additional Superintendent of Police, UPSTF, said on Sunday.

“Sixty four call centres were their channel partners. These call centres are located in Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida. Around fifty per cent of these call centres are in Delhi and 30 percent in Gurgaon and the rest in Noida, Agra, Etah and other towns,” he said.

“Teams will scrutinise records of all the 64 call centres to ascertain their involvement and to calculate the magnitude of the scam,” he said.

“So far Rs 14 crore transactions have been detected. Further investigations are on,” he said. - PTI
