The Delhi Police on Saturday arrested four persons, including 64-year-old Residents Welfare Association president, in connection with thrashing and assault on a Kashmiri family in south-east Delhi’s Sidharth Extension area.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Chinmoy Biswal confirmed that the four persons arrested are RWA president S.N. Pandey, security guard Kalyan, and two residents R.K. Chopra and Anil Laad.

A senior police officer said that the arrests were made after the persons were identified in the video. The complainant, 38-year-old man, had given a list with names of people which included Mr. Pandey and Mr. Kalyan.

On the complaint of residents of Sunlight Colony, the police have registered a case under various sections of IPC against the other party, said Mr. Biswal.

The police, on Friday, had registered a case under Section 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354A (Sexual harassment and punishment for sexual harassment), 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint), 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt.), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation), 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), and 34 (Common intention) of the IPC after the Kashmiri family alleged that they were targeted by nearly 40 people because of their identity and called “terrorists”. The complainant also alleged that his three sisters were sexually harassed during the incident.

The police, however, in a statement said that dispute was over feeding of stray dogs in the colony.

The RWA, on Friday, had claimed that the clash had nothing to do with the family’s Kashmiri identity.
