: More than a month after the Station House Officer of the Sector 29 police station here was allegedly abducted and robbed of his belongings, the Gurgaon police on Sunday claimed to have arrested three more persons in this connection.
Those arrested include Khalid, Aabid, Hyum. The fourth accused in the case, Khalid, was arrested in early July following a brief encounter on Old Alwar Road.
The four belonged to a gang that would allegedly steal cars and then rob trucks carrying copper.
The gang leader, Islamuddin, and two of his members, Surender Gulia and Salim, have already been arrested by the Delhi Police.
On June 29, the four along with Surender and Salim had come to Gurgaon to steal a car. When they could not succeed in finding a target, the six went to a guest house in Sector 56 where they stayed overnight. On the afternoon of June 30, when the four were loitering around Galleria Market to target a Hyundai Verna car, they were spotted by Inspector Surinder Singh Phogat. The latter was on his way to Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Deepak Saharan’s office.
Caught off guard
The police officer made them sit in his car, but the four overpowered him, and drove away towards Faridabad. At a village near Hathin in Palwal, the accused persons took off the police officer’s uniform and stuffed him inside the boot of the car. They then withdrew money with the debit card of the officer, and kept him captive inside the car at an abandoned brick kiln for several hours. Some of their gang members also joined them.
Left in the lurch
The gang later left the officer on a roadside in Uttar Pradesh, and drove away in his car with his mobile, debit card and cash. They then went on to carry out more robberies, said the police.
The police officer’s car was taken by Islamuddin. Investigation has revealed that Islamuddin would pay Rs.30,000 to Rs.50,000 to the gang members for stealing a car, but they got more money for robbing trucks carrying copper.
The gang was allegedly involved in several dozen cases of robbery and dacoity in Gurgaon, Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.
