A 26-year-old case has been reopened in a Delhi court with the arrest of a proclaimed offender who was accused of raping and kidnapping a minor girl and had jumped bail during the trial.

Forty-six-year-old Suresh, a resident of Pandav Nagar, was arrested by the Delhi Police on January 6 from RK Puram in South Delhi and produced before a metropolitan magistrate who remanded him to judicial custody.

The trial in the 1988 case would now be reopened in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Sarita Birbal who has fixed the case for further proceedings on January 12.

According to the prosecution, a complaint was lodged by the parents of the girl, who was 14-years-old at the time of the incident, alleging that their daughter has been missing since November 22, 1988, and they suspected Suresh behind this. — PTI
