Around 25 vehicles piled up on Kanjhawala-Bawana road in outer Delhi as visibility dipped on Thursday morning owing to dense fog, the police said.
The police said that a woman, who was travelling in a car, has sustained major injuries, while several others with minor injuries and bruises had to be provided first aid.
The incident was reported at 7.30 a.m. on Kanjhawala-Bawana road near Nangal Thakuran village when a car caught fire and stopped in middle of the road. The occupants of the car managed to get out of the vehicle safely. However, due to the dense fog other vehicles travelling on the road started getting piled up after another car hit the first car.
“Several vehicles have been damaged in the pile-up. Those were removed from the road later. No casualty has been reported. The injured persons were taken to a nearby hospital and were discharged after they were provided first aid. The flow of traffic on the road is normal now,” said a police officer.
Many two-wheelers were also damaged in the accident, the police said.
The police said a DTC Bus and a car were found at the spot. A few more vehicles left the spot without reporting the incident. A woman who was in one of the cars suffered injuries on the leg. Necessary legal action is being taken.
Locals said that they prevented more vehicles from piling up by putting branches of trees on the road.
