Two men were arrested on Sunday with cannabis that they were supposed to supply in Delhi and Rajasthan, the police said on Wednesday. The youths, who are members of a drug cartel, were arrested near Chandgiram Akhara.

The accused, identified as Sobhe Ram (25) and Sanu Thakur (21), are residents of Kullu district in Himachal Pradesh.

The police have seized 1.1 kg of charas, valued at ₹1.1 crore in the international market, from the accused.

The operation was conducted by the STARS-II team of the Crime Branch.

A case has been registered against them under Section 20 (punishment for contravention in relation to cannabis plant and cannabis) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Further investigation is under way.

The police on Sunday got a tip-off that the accused were travelling to Delhi from Kasol to supply drugs.

The police found the drugs under the speedometer in the dashboard of the accused’s car.

Sold drugs to tourists

During interrogation, the accused, who are relatives, said they used to sell cannabis to tourists visiting Malana and Kasol.

They came in contact with two men later who asked them to supply drugs in Rajasthan and Gurugram and even paid for their transportation. The other two men have been identified as Tony from Rajasthan and Janu from Gurugram.

The police have also seized the car in which Ram and Thakur were travelling in, along with two mobile phones.

The police said that one Jitender, who lives in Kullu, was also arrested on Sunday for the possession of 250 g of cannabis. He smuggled cannabis to Mumbai and Delhi and had allegedly told Thakur “secret ways” to transport drugs from Himachal Pradesh to different parts of the country.
