A resident of Jahangirpuri and a juvenile have been apprehended for allegedly killing a security officer at Azadpur Sabzi Mandi on September 13, the police said on Tuesday.

Love alias Labbu and his minor friend were held after they were identified with the help of CCTV footage. Sumer Singh (55), an assistant security officer with the Agricultural Produce Market Committee, was shot dead at the mandi on September 13. During questioning, the duo allegedly told the police that the victim had stopped the minor from entering the mandi premises, where he was to sell fruits at a stall, a day earlier.

“His father, who runs an eatery on a cycle-rickshaw, was unwell on September 12 and the minor came in his stead. However, he was stopped by Mr. Singh, who allegedly slapped him,” said DCP (north-west) Milind Mahadeo Dumbere.

The duo went to the mandi on a bike early on September 13 and the minor allegedly shot Mr. Singh in revenge. The police have recovered a country-made pistol and the bike used by the duo.
