15 government hospitals in the offing

January 06, 2011 07:43 pm | Updated 07:43 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The Delhi Government is planning to commission 15 hospitals in the city to boost the number of beds from the present figure of 7,510 in 38 government hospitals to over 10,000.

The proposal was discussed at a review meeting of the Health and Family Welfare Department chaired by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and attended by Health Minister Kiran Walia and Health Secretary Rajendra Kumar.

It was pointed out that the hospital bed position in the Capital was much better than the national average. While Delhi has 2.5 beds per 1,000 population, the national average is 0.7 hospital beds per 1,000 population.

The Kokiwala Bagh Hospital with a bed strength of 200 is now under construction. The newly planned hospitals will come up in Burari, Hastsal, Sarita Vihar, Chhatarpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Madipur, Jwalapuri and Bamnauli.

These will be 200-bed hospitals. Siraspur, Keshavpuram and Jaunti will have 100-bed hospitals whereas 50-bed hospitals have been planned at Molar Bund and Baprola.

The Directorate of Health Services has secured the land for 11 of the planned hospitals whereas in the case of one other hospital, the building plans are currently being prepared.
