Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami to inaugurate newly-built flyover

Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami will visit Salem on Saturday and Sunday to inaugurate the annual summer festival at Yercaud and open the newly built flyover in the city.

According to official sources, the Chief Minister will also lay foundation for the former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa memorial arch in front of the panchayat union office in Yercaud town on Saturday.

On Sunday, the Chief Minister will inaugurate the flyover, before proceeding to Erode district.

District Collector Rohini R. Bhajibhakare, who inspected the arrangements on Thursday, said that Chief Minister has evinced interest that the school students should be given an opportunity to witness the summer festival and flower show and hence they will be continued for five days till May 16.

There is a ban on using plastic on the hill station. It has been planned to have the five-day event as green festival with the distribution of more than one lakh saplings free of cost to the tourists.

The Food Safety Department conducted a demonstration of identifying adulterated materials while preparing food in the houses. The Collector witnessed the demonstration and also distributed pamphlets carrying the details of the same. The Collector also inspected the work of laying a platform on the road leading to the boat house at an outlay of ₹ 9.90 lakh.

The Yercaud town and the surrounding areas are getting spruced up for the festival and the tourism department has started removing water hyacinth from the lake.
