Woman’s organs donated to nine patients

Organs of a 29-year-old woman from Avinashi in Tiruppur district, who was declared brain dead following a road accident, were assigned by the Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu (Transtan) to nine patients on Tuesday.

According to a release, P. Nandhini from Vadugapalayam was hit by a four-wheeler when she was walking back home from work on November 17.

She was rushed to Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH), where she was pronounced brain dead on November 19.

With the consent of Mahesh Kumar, Nandhini’s husband, organ transplant surgeons from KMCH harvested the organs including heart, lungs, liver, kidneys and eyes, in accordance with the regulations prescribed by Transtan, the release said. While the kidneys were assigned to two patients at KMCH, the other organs were assigned by Transtan to five beneficiaries from a private hospital in Coimbatore and two beneficiaries from a private hospital in Chennai.
