Woman robbed of 30 sovereigns of jewellery

Two persons robbed a woman of 30 sovereigns of gold jewellery at knife point here on Tuesday.

According to the police, the duo came to a house in Neelikonampalayam near Singanallur on Tuesday under the guise of seeking donation for a temple. When M. Mansi (28) opened the door, they threatened her at knife point.

The police said that Mansi was alone with her eight-month-old infant when the incident occurred. The two men took away the jewellery from a locker inside the house, after demanding that Mansi unlock it. The Singanallur police have registered a case and are investigating.

22 sovereigns robbed

In another incident, a gang of five broke into a house at Jagadish Nagar in Seeranaickenpalayam here during the early hours of Tuesday and decamped with over 22 sovereigns of gold jewellery along with diamonds and Rs. 1 lakh in cash. According to the police, the house occupants were R. Umadevi (55), her son R. Udhayakumar, his wife and their two-year-old son besides a maid.
