“We don’t take our health seriously”

“We don’t take care of our health unless it becomes problematic,” said former Chief Justice of India and now Kerala Governor P. Sathasivam on Thursday.

Mr. Sathasivam was addressing the gathering after inaugurating VGM’s Liver Care Program for Orphan Children 2014-15 and releasing the Tamil book ‘Kaleeral Enum Kavalan’ on liver care.

The book was authored by Dr. V.G. Mohan Prasad, Chairman of V.G.M. Hospital and Institute of Gastroenterology and President of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology.

According to Mr. Sathasivam , health care is not getting due attention owing to lack of awareness on healthy life styles. The other concern is the high cost of medicines which is making it unaffordable for the marginalised sections. The former Chief Justice of India made an appeal to doctors to create awareness on health among the public. He said there are no provisions in the Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure and Motor Vehicle Act which prevents government and private doctors from attending to seriously injured persons in an accident – before the arrival of the police and completion of legal formalities.
