Water released from Aliyar reservoir

Municipal Administration Minister S.P. Velumani opened the shutters of the Aliyar reservoir for irrigation purposes here on Monday.

A total of 22,352 acres of agricultural land in Pollachi and Anamalai Blocks will be irrigated by 2,250 million cft of water released from the reservoir in a phased manner, Mr. Velumani said in a press release. The water was released as per the November 2 order of Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, following requests from farmers’ associations.

The breakdown of the agricultural lands to be benefited are: 5,621 acres under Pollachi canal in Pollachi Block, 6,321 acres under Pollachi canal in Anamalai Block, 555,8 acres under Vettaikaranpudur canal, 2,529 acres under Sethumadai canal and 2,303 acres under Aliyar feeder canal, according to the release.

Deputy Speaker of the Assembly Pollachi V. Jayaraman, District Collector K. Rajamani and other officials from the District Administration participated in the event.
