A change in the process of electoral roll revision is proving to be a waste of time and money.
Usually, when a voter applies for changes in the details, it is sent for field verification before making a data entry. Now, it has been decided to enter all the application details before being sent to verification.Normally, applications seeking inclusion of names are sent to Village Administrative Officer, Revenue Inspector for field verification. Then Deputy Tahsildar will scrutinise the field verification report. Later, it will be recommended for inclusion. Only then a data entry is made.
This all applications received are entered at first hand, and then sent for field verification.
This results in delay in verification besides entering information of even applications likely to be rejected. Data entry charge of Rs. 3.25 has to be paid even for such rejected applications. Coimbatore and Tirupur districts have received about 1.5 lakh applications each. The Nilgiris district has received about 40,000 applications. On an average close to 15 per cent to 20 per cent of the applications are likely to be rejected for want of proof or owing to bogus claims.
Around 15,000 to 20,000 application forms (seeking inclusion of names) in each district are likely to get rejected. Though money has to be paid for these forms too, the data entered in terms of these rejected application become irrelevant.
