Voters’ awareness campaign held

To ensure 100% polling in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections, awareness campaigns, distribution of pamphlets and other activities were carried out by the election officials here.

During the Lok Sabha elections 2014, the polling percentage recorded at the Erode constituency was 76.39%. Hence, to increase electoral participation, the Election Commission is carrying out various programmes under the Systematic Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme.

The main objective of SVEEP activities was to increase qualitative participation in terms of ethical and informed voting, said the officials. Activities include, display of Electronic Voting Machines at polling stations and in remote areas, distribution of awareness pamphlets and undertaking rallies by students, voter marathon, street play stressing the need for electors to participate in the election, conducting competitions in colleges, encouraging youngsters who had completed 18 years age to enrol as electors and cast their votes.

Officials said that the activities are carried out at all the blocks for the active participation of the electors.
