January 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - COIMBATORE:

The 8th edition of the Velvi Art for Autism Festival will be in the city from January 22 to 24.

The festival, which is coming to Coimbatore for the first time, is being held by Amaze Charitable Trust at the Karl Kubel Institute for Development Education at Mankarai.

Social stigma

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Parasuram Ramamoorthi, festival director, said that the event would focus on removing the social stigma attached to autism.

The festival aims at providing an opportunity for parents, therapists and patients to interact and cope with the disorder through art, music, dance, drama and Kinesology (study of movement).

An art exhibition will be held at Brookfields Mall on January 25 where the works of eminent artists would be displayed between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Around 115 people, including 30 autism patients, 50 parents, 20 professionals and volunteers are expected to participate.
