Commotion prevailed at a private hospital on Avanashi Road, near airport on Wednesday, after a cameraman belonging to a private Tamil news television channel was reportedly assaulted by a section of the hospital staff.

According to eyewitness accounts, cameraman M.S. Krishnan along with driver Ashok had been to the KMCH premises following reports of a patient having been subjected to a wrong surgery and medical negligence leaving him in poor health for the last 11 months.

Even as the patient (20-year-old man) and his relatives were holding talks with the hospital authorities over the pending bills and further treatment, the TV crew were reportedly intercepted at the gate by the hospital security staff. It is stated that the wordy duel culminated into push and pull and finally into an alleged assault on the cameraman. The cameraman and the driver were admitted to CMCH.

Meanwhile, representatives from the television channels and other media organisations picketed the hospital. The media representatives sought the arrest of those involved in the attack and preferred a complaint with the Peelamedu police. Hospital sources said that the patient was told in clear terms that there was no wrong surgery or medical negligence and was advised to seek legal remedy.

Following persistent appeal, the hospital said that the patient could pay the pending bill and get discharged.
