A month after a family was robbed of 7.5 sovereign jewellery by a highway robbery gang at K.G.Chavadi, a Rajasthan native running a hardware showroom in Thrissur district of Kerala was robbed of his car, ₹1.5 lakh and a mobile phone at knife-point by a four-member gang at Madukarai Marapalam in the early hours of Monday. However, the car was found abandoned at Pachapalayam off Siruvani road later on the day.

According to Coimbatore Rural Police, the robbery took place when Khan Singh (32) was on his way to Coimbatore to purchase hardware items for his shop in Thrissur.

The gang reportedly stopped Mr. Singh’s car near Madukarai Marapalam on Coimbatore - Palakad Road around 4.30 a.m. on Monday.

They threatened him with a knife and robbed him of ₹1.5 lakh and mobile phone.

While two of the men left in their car, the other two fled the spot with Mr. Singh’s car.

Mr. Singh, who suffered a laceration near his right ear, later approached the Madukkarai police and reported the incident.

Coimbatore Rural SP Pa. Moorthy has formed three special teams to trace the persons involved in the robbery.
