Tenants decamp with valuables

City Police have launched a manhunt to trace missing tenants in connection with the theft of valuables from the owner of a house on Agraharam Street near, Chellandiamman Koil in Singanallur.

According to police, Narayanan (40), who operates a cargo van, had given one portion of the house on rent to a person who identified himself as Rajkumar alias Rajesh Prabhu and introduced a woman from Andhra Pradesh as his wife. On Monday, Narayanan went out of station and on his return on Tuesday, he found the door broken open, almirah ransacked, and 18 sovereigns of jewellery missing.

The identity and antecedents of the tenant, who had gone missing, is not known.

Mother seeks justice

Meenakshi of Samayanallur in Tiruchi working in a textile mill and living at Annur with her daughter Narmada (19) on Tuesday presented a petition seeking help to re-unite her daughter with her husband and Rakesh Kumar alias Rajesh from Odisha, a migrant worker.

According to her, her son-in-law who was working with her at the mill used to visit her house and had developed a love affair with Narmada and had sexually exploited her. After initially refusing to marry her, Rajesh married her following police intervention. After marriage, he left for his native place on a holiday and did not return. The mother and daughter went to Odisha and pleaded with him to live with the girl. But he demanded Rs. 2 lakh. The police have arrested him. On Tuesday, they sought the intervention of the Collector to re-unite the young couple.
