Corporation wants re-survey

A private agency entrusted with the work of carrying out a survey of city for Geographical Information System has been asked to do a resurvey, as the sample details of 64 Wards were found to be faulty.

Corporation Commissioner T.K. Ponnusamy told The Hindu that the agency was asked to carry out survey of 72 Wards spread over 105.6 sq km.

The agency was expected to prepare a software too. The data could be used to accord sanction for building plans, tax assessment, provision of drinking water and drainage, he added. The agency completed the survey of 64 Wards.

Mr. Ponnusamy said that there was more than 25 per cent discrepancy in the data and the total extent of discrepancy was around 70 per cent to 80 per cent. The civic body presented the data available with the Corporation and the one generated by the agency at a review meeting conducted by the Director of Municipal Administration at Chennai. Mr. Ponnusamy said that such faulty data could not be used for GIS.

The resurvey would begin immediately after the completion of local body elections, he added.
