‘Stop Ayudha Pujas in govt. offices’

Members of Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam (DVK) staged a demonstration near the South Taluk Office here on Tuesday protesting against Ayudha pujas in government offices.

DVK Coimbatore city unit president M. Nehrudass, who led the protest, said that performing pujas at government offices, government hospitals and banks would hurt sentiments of people from other religious backgrounds.

Orders

“It is also against the four different orders passed by the State Government in 1968, 1994, 2005 and in 2010,” he said.

On Monday, cadre of the Kazhagam circulated petitions stressing on their demand at the office of the Police Commissioner, Coimbatore Corporation and District Collectorate.

Action

The demonstrators also sought action against officials who organised puja at their offices or failed to initiate action on those who offered prayers.
