To ensure that road users follow the rules and no accidents take place, the district police have been implementing “No Accident Day” every Monday across the district.

Superintendent of Police S. Sakthi Ganesan said that various steps are being taken to prevent road accidents taking place across the district. Motorists were asked to wear helmets and seat belts and were asked to adhere to the rules. The police along with Transport Department, NGOs and other organisations were involved in creating awareness among the road users.

The police had introduced “Helmet Zone” in the city where motorists wearing helmets only will be allowed to use the stretch from Collectorate Junction to Swastik Corner and to Panneerselvam Park. The system has also been implemented in Bhavani, Gobichettipalayam, Sathyamangalam, Perundurai and Anthiyur and motorists without helmets are not allowed to use particular stretch in the city and towns.

Mr. Ganesan said that the police introduced the new system on July 8 to ensure that no accidents take place on the particular day. The system would be in place on all Mondays when motorists would take a pledge that they would follow the road rules to prevent accidents. A total of 913 cases were registered, including 511 cases for not wearing helmets and 151 cases for not wearing seat belts in cars on Monday.
