Sports mela concludes

A four-day sports mela, ‘3SL Salem Sona Sports League 18,’ organised by the Sona Group of Institutions concluded here on Saturday.

The aim was to identify budding sport stars. Vice-chairman of the group, Thyagu Valliappa, was very keen on building a strong platform for sports and games in the district through various initiatives and events.

Various teams participated in cricket, tennis, table tennis, basketball, and badminton tournaments.

More than 500 players from Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruchi, Vellore, Namakkal, and Dharmapuri actively participated in the tournaments under the age category of 15 and 17.

K. Shankar, City Police Commissioner, inaugurated the event.

R.S. Ramaswamy, secretary, Salem District Cricket Association, S.R. Thiruvalavan, CEO – Dharan Hospital, offered felicitations at the valediction.

Winners were honoured by Thyagu Valliappa with cash prizes.

Top performers in each event were offered scholarships to pursue their degree courses at Sona Group of Institutions.
