Forest Department officials incinerated in Masinagudi on Wednesday 24 elephant tusks and deer horn, seized from wildlife offenders, and from carcasses of animals found dead in the reserve over the last few years.

Mudumalai Tiger Reserve officials said in a press release that the country had a strong legal and policy framework to regulate and restrict wildlife trade in over 1,800 species. The country was also a member of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of flora and fauna. “Various animal parts seized in wildlife offences are destroyed as per a prescribed procedure and are not to be traded or used as animal trophies,” the release said.
