SBI branch celebrates 150 years

The year-long sesquicentennial celebrations of the heritage branch of the State Bank of India in Udhagamandalam began on Tuesday.

The Chief General Manager, SBI, B. Ramesh Babu, said that the focus of the bank on community service activities was on the rise and has set aside a sum of Rs. 250 crore this year. Pointing out that the branch was one of the oldest, he listed many of its unique aspects like the heritage gallery it houses.

District Collector P. Sankar underscored the role of banks in uplifting the people belonging to various sections of the society and lauded the yeomen service it had rendered to the people in the hills.

The former Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission, M.R. Srinivasan, said that SBI’s presence in the field of CSR activities was widely recognised and stressed the need to deal firmly with non-performing assets.

General Manager of SBI G. Ravindranath and Deputy General Manager R.S. Ramesh took part. The release of a coffee table book on the branch and a medical camp marked the occasion.
