Following complaints of financial irregularities in utilisation of funds under the National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM) scheme, the Corporation has ordered for a detailed inquiry.

The aim of the NULM is to reduce poverty among the urban poor by providing them access to skill training programmes for self-employment and wage employment opportunities.

While the Central government funding is 75%, State government funding is 25%. The Central government had provided ₹11 crore to the Corporation in the last three years for providing training to self-help groups. The scheme is implemented by the Corporation’s health department.

The sanitary officer who was in-charge of the scheme was transferred to the Hasthampatti Zonal office three months ago.

However, he refused to surrender the documents. Recently, complaints poured in about financial irregularities under the scheme. The issue was taken up with the Corporation Commissioner R. Sadheesh who has ordered a detailed inquiry into it. A separate officer would be appointed to complete the task, he said.
