As rain recedes providing the much-required respite for the flood and landslip hit Kerala, it was relief pouring in for those affected by floods.

The Rapid Action Force of 105 Battalion of Central Reserve Police Force based at Vellalore here rushed to Kerala on the request of Palakkad Collector followed by the permission accorded by the Union Home Ministry for relief and rescue operations.

Against odd weather and in difficult terrains, the two companies of RAF deployed in Nemmara and Nelliampathi tribal areas rescued hundreds of people for the last five days.

IRCS appeal

The Coimbatore district branch of the Indian Red Cross Society has appealed to the public to extend a helping hand by contributing materials and money for rehabilitation.

Public can contribute their donations in cash/cheques in favour of Indian Red Cross Society, Coimbatore, Distrit Branch. They can also donate through online transfer in A/c No. 470956253, Indian Bank, Pappanaikenpalayam Branch, IFSC Code: IDIB000P018. For further information, contact U. A team of school students led by A.R. Harini of S.S.V.M High school distributed relief materials to the worst-affected area Valliya Perambur, in Mala, near Thrissur on Sunday.

Trucks carrying relief materials worth ₹4 lakh contributed by the officials and employees of the offices of Income Tax in Coimbatore, Erode, Tirupur, Pollachi and Udhagamandalam were flagged off by Chief Commissioner of Income Tax T.P. Krishnakumar on Monday.

Seven groups of medical teams have been sent from Isha Outreach to support the relief measures.

In Tirupur, about 60 transgenders, who eke out a living seeking alms, donated their two days collection for the relief measures. They gave away rice, wheat, cooking oil, sanitary napkins etc worth ₹30,000.

The materials were handed over to District Social Welfare Officer S.S. Poongothai, said Divya, one of the transgenders.
