The district police on Wednesday returned stolen goods, including cash, jewellery and vehicles related to 70 cases to the tune of ₹1,76,15,400 to the owners here.
At a functioned held at Armed Reserve Grounds at 46 Pudur village, K. Periaiah, Inspector General of Police, West Zone, and G. Karthikeyan, Deputy Inspector General of Police, handed over the properties to the owners in the presence of Superintendent of Police S. Sakthi Ganesan. Properties returned include five lorries, six cars, one three-wheeler, 15 two-wheelers, 39 mobile phones, one laptop, ₹10,74,900 and 277.5 sovereign gold jewellery.
The worth Properties returned in each division include, Erode - ₹63,36,900, Bhavani - Rs. 20,62,000, Gobichettipalayam – Rs. 5.90 lakh, Sathyamangalam – Rs. 6,31,500 and Erode Rural division – Rs. 79.95 lakh.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Periaiah asked people to be vigilant and take all precautionary measures, including installing closed circuit television cameras in their houses and commercial establishments as it will help in crime prevention and detection. He said that police personnel perform duty round-the-clock and asked the public to extend their cooperation to the personnel.
Policemen, who were part of the detection squad were presented with certificates and cash awards on the occasion.
