Raids nothing but a drama: CITU

October 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 10:08 am IST - COIMBATORE:

The claim of Union and State Governments that they had seized 75,000 tonnes of pulses during raids in warehouses across the country, was nothing but a drama, said CITU State president A. Soundararajan here on Monday.

He was here to participate in a protest organised by the trade union. Factory and industry owners were not concerned about paying workers in the backdrop of rising prices. The governments too were unconcerned. But the prices of essential commodities were skyrocketing.

To deflect the anger, the governments claimed to have seized hoarded pulses. This was nothing but an eyewash, he said and added that the governments were fully aware of who the hoarders were and how they manipulated price rise.

Mr. Soundararajan said even though the production was good, the governments had mismanaged matters that had led to the price rise of pulses.

He sought compensation for the family members of a murdered worker.

He condemned the move to scrap benefits granted by unorganised workers’ welfare board. He said that bonus should be paid for workers for Deepavali, and fixation of fair price for autorickshaws in the city.
