Protests continue against ban on study circle

Various political parties and organisations continued protests condemning the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, and Union Government for banning Ambedkar - Periyar Study Circle in the institution. Fourteen persons from various organisations, including a woman, blocked Coimbatore to Chennai ‘Shatabdi Express’ at platform number four at Coimbatore Junction.

The train supposed to start at 3.20 p.m. left only around 3.40 p.m. after the police removed protestors from the track.

Eighteen members of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi were picked up by the police for burning pictures of Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani at the G.P. Signal.

Thirty members of Theendamai Olippu Munnani were cleared from the place for blocking the road near the Red Cross building.

Members of the Aam Aadmi Party along with representatives from Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam, Social Democratic Party of India, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi and a few others staged a protest near the Ukkadam Bus Stand on Monday evening. Around 30 persons participated in the protest.
