The police have turned down the requests from Hindu and Muslim organisations to organise any type of demonstrations in the city on Tuesday.

The day marks the 14th anniversary of serial blasts occurred in the city that claimed 58 lives.

Indu Makkal Katchi (Tamilagam), Hanuman Sena, Shiv Sena, Bharat Sena, and Vivekananda Narpanigal Mandram have together sought permission to perform ‘pushpanjali' on the day to pay homage to blasts victims.

Bharatia Janata Party, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh, Akhil Bharathia Vidyarthi Parishad, and Bharathia Mazdoor Sangh have sought permission to perform ‘deepanjali.'

The Tamil Nadu Thowheeth Jama-ath, however, has sought permission to hold a demonstration seeking 10 per cent reservation for the minority community.

All the permissions had been denied, the police said adding that those assembling at R.S. Puram for any of the above purposes would be arrested. Security had been strengthened with more than 2,000 personnel deployed on duty at various parts of the city, the police said.

Commissioner of Police T.P. Sundaramurthy, and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Hema Karunakaran, are supervising the security arrangements.
