While the cricket fever rises, from the recently concluded IPL season to the upcoming world cup in England and Wales, the Salem City Police are using the sport to strenghthen their relations with the public.
City Police Commissioner K. Shankar inaugurated the Cricket Fest at the AR Grounds here on Saturday, stating that “the city police have been conducting such community programmes to improve the relationship between the police force and the public.”
Matches at various venues were inaugurated by senior police officials, including Deputy Police Commissioner (Law and Order) P. Thangadurai and Superintendent of Police for Salem Rural, S. Deepa Ganiger .
Totally, 64 teams including that of the police are participating in the tournament.
The matches are being played on an eight overs per side knockout format till May 30. On Saturday, 17 matches were held at three venues. The finals of the tournament would be held on June 2.
