Plastics ban: Corpn. collects ₹16.28 lakh in fines

Salem Corporation in various drives conducted against the sale and use of banned plastic items has collected fines of up to ₹16,28,950 from defaulters in its limits.

A release from the Corporation said that since the ban came into effect on January 1, the Corporation raided over 3,505 commercial spaces across its four divisions and seized over 12,654 kg of banned plastics.

The Corporation formed five monitoring teams to prevent the sale and use of banned plastic materials. The officials raided 812 shops and seized 3,688 kg of banned plastics in Sooramangalam zone, 867 kg seized from 660 shops in Hasthampatti, 4,569 kg from 1,037 shops in Ammapettai and 2,530 kgs was seized from 996 shops in Kondalampatti, the release said.

The officials warned of stern action against use of banned plastic items.
