Citing increase in workload, Post Graduate teachers in the district has requested the School Education Department to exempt them from taking classes for NEET or JEE examinations for the Plus Two students.

In a petition to the Principal Secretary of the department, teachers of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology, said that with the revamping of curriculum for Plus One, they have to put in additional efforts.

Hence, special classes were taken in morning and evening hours and also on Saturdays. Also, preparation of model question papers and conduct of examinations regularly were being done by them. Apart from this they have to take classes for students in schools where the teacher for concerned subject had gone on transfer.

The petition said that teachers have to prepare the database of students by entering the details in the Education Management Information System (EMIS) apart from carrying out office works. But teachers were asked to provide coaching to the students for NEET on Saturdays and Sundays.

Additional stress

“It creates additional stress on us as we cannot work on all the seven days”, the petition said. They said that coaching should be provided on weekdays and not on weekends and wanted the department to change the schedule.

There are 14 NEET coaching centres in the district in which selected students will undergo training. Trained persons from Chennai were providing training to the teachers who in-turn take classes for the aspirants.
