The Corporation schools have marginally improved their performance this year in the SSLC public examinations, the results of which were announced on Thursday.

Of the total 2,296 students, who took the April 2015 examinations, as many as 2,096 or 91.29 per cent cleared it, compared to 90.79 per cent of last year.

No cent per cent pass

However, none of the 27 Corporation schools that sent candidates to the examinations managed to score cent per cent pass. One school managed it last year.

Eight students shared the top three ranks among the Corporation schools.

The Corporation Higher Secondary School on Oppanakara Street walked away with so many of the top honours.

The top mark was 494 out of 500, which was scored by four students, three of whom - K. Adhila Farzana, S. Sirijuneesa and AD Thasmin - were from the Corporation school on Oppanakara Street, and K. Sruthi was from the Corporation S.R.P. Amminiammal Girls Higher Secondary School in R.S. Puram.

Adhila Farzana, daughter of a vegetable vendor, is interested in becoming a paediatrician.

Sruthi, whose mother Thamarai Selvi is a teacher in the same school, wants to become a cardiologist as her father died due to heart attack.

S. Safrina, also from the Corporation school on Oppanakara Street, scored 492 to come second.

N. Kaviyasri of the Corporation Girls Higher Secondary School, Ramakrishnapuram, V. Renuka Devi of the Corporation Amminiammal school, R.S. Puram and T. Prakash of the Corporation High School, Pappanayakanpudur, scored 491 to come third.

Mayor P. Rajkumar said that the Corporation was looking to extend support for the toppers to pursue higher education.
