The Anamalai police have booked a 25-year-old man for alleged sexual assault on a five-year-old girl from a village near Anamalai late on Monday. The police also booked another man who took the accused to the house of the survivor.

K. Karthi, a resident of K.K. Patty at Gopalapuram near Pollachi, was arrested by the police for sexually assaulting the minor girl on the pretext of taking her out to buy chocolates.

According to police, the girl’s father was close to Karthi’s friend Murugan. On Monday evening, Murugan and Karthi went to the girl’s house where they consumed liquor with her father who works in a farm.

After consuming alcohol, the girl’s father and Murugan went to the farm to operate an irrigation motor.

Meantime, Karthi took the girl on his two-wheeler informing others that he would get her chocolates and return soon. With Karthi and the girl not turning up even after two hours, Murugan attempted to contact him over phone. But he could not be reached. According to the police, Karthi returned with the girl sometime later. After noticing blood in the girl’s lips and private part, her father attacked Karthi with a sickle.

The survivor and the accused were rushed to Government Hospital in Pollachi. Sources alleged that the girl did not get adequate care at the hospital throughout the night and doctors referred her to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital around 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Her condition was stable late on Tuesday.
