Martyrs’ Day observed

The 118 Battalion of Border Security Force honoured the relatives of martyrs from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry at an event to mark the Martyrs’ Day and the Golden Jubilee Year of the founding of BSF organised at the BSF camp at Kittampalayam in Coimbatore district on Wednesday.

Deputy Commandant of 118 Battalion, Anil Kumar, said that 39 BSF personnel from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry were killed in action while fighting intrusion and terrorists at Jammu and Kashmir and in the North-Eastern States.

Families of 14 martyrs came to the event and were recognised with mementos and a shawl. K.K. Kaushal, Additional Director of Tamil Nadu Forest Academy was the chief guest.

Petition submitted

Relatives of the martyrs made a representation to the BSF officials here seeking jobs for kin of the martyrs, among other demands. The officials said that their pleas would be forwarded to the officials concerned.

Police officials and personnel placed wreaths and paid homage to uniformed service personnel who died while on the call of duty. Policemen fired three rounds of bullets for paying respect to martyrs at the observance function organised at Police Recruit School Grounds.

City Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan, Inspector General of Police (West Zone) K. Shankar, Deputy Commissioners of the City Police R.V. Ramya Bharathi and T.K. Rajasekaran, Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore District, M. Sudhakar and others were present.

In Tirupur, senior police and revenue officials paid tributes to the police officers/ policemen who were either killed or met with unnatural death while on duty across the country during the last one year.

City Police Commissioner S. N. Seshasai, Deputy Commissioners of Police R. Thirunavukkarasu and P. Sundaravadivel, Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Singh, District Revenue Officer Prasanna Ramasamy and various sub-divisional police officers placed wreaths at a makeshift memorial.
