The first additional district court in Coimbatore on Monday sentenced a man to undergo life term in connection with a murder in May last year.
Judge M. Gunasekaran awarded the punishment to Ramachandran of Keeranatham, for murdering A. Gopi aka Kumaravel, employee of a cable TV network. The murder took place on May 5 last year in a Tasmac bar on Keeranatham Road near Tidel Park. Kumaravel used to visit the tea stall run by Ramachandran and he became close to the latter’s wife. Though Ramachandran had warned his wife and Kumaravel, they continued to be in touch.
On May 5, Ramachandran took Kumaravel to the Tasmac bar in the pretext of offering drinks. The duo had a drunken brawl and Ramachandran stabbed Kumaravel. Though an injured Kumaravel was rushed to hospital, doctors declared him brought dead. Ramachandran was also awarded a fine of ₹ 1,000.

The Pollachi East police have booked a woman for taking away 12 sovereigns of jewellery and ₹ 10,000 fromher relative who was admitted to a hospital for a surgery.
Bakkiyammal of Pongaliyur near Pollachi was booked after she went missing with the jewellery and money of Paapathi (70).
Police said that Paapathi was admitted to a private hospital in Pollachi for surgery.
On Sunday, she handed over the jewellery and cash to Bakkiyammal before she was shifted to the operation theatre.
