The police arrested a 34-year-old man of Vettaikaranpudur near Anaimalai for allegedly murdering the owner of the house he was staying, on Wednesday night.
According to the police, the victim, S. Sabarinathan (27), a coconut seller, lived with his pregnant wife and three-year-old daughter in a house at Vettaikaranpudur. The police said that he rented out a portion of the tiled-roof house to B. Selvakumar, a daily wage labourer, who lived with his wife and two children from 2013.
Selvakumar in an inebriated condition frequently created nuisance to neighbours.
It is learnt that he also did not pay the rent for three months resulting in frequent quarrels between the owner and him. Finally, the owner was said to have asked Selvakumar to vacate the house. A quarrel broke out on Wednesday night in this connection and in a fit of rage Selvakumar reportedly stabbed Sabarinathan with a knife and fled the place. The victim was rushed to the Pollachi Government Hospital, but died en route. The police arrested Selvakumar. He was remanded in judicial custody on Thursday.
