Man killed while unloading glass consignment

A labourer was killed on the spot after toughened glass weighing 2.5 ton fell on him while unloading it from a container using a crane on Park Road here on Friday.

The shop imports glass from foreign countries that arrive at Thoothukudi in ships and from there it is transported through lorries.

On Friday, a consignment arrived and a crane was pressed into service for unloading it.

While a pack of glasses was being unloaded, 10 workers were supporting the process. The belt that is attached to the pack got slipped and the pack fell on Suresh (40), who suffered serious injuries. He died on the spot.
